Ten Things You Didn’t Know About Me!

I’ve kicked off 2017 with a few speaking engagements. And now that I have a few workshops and photo walks coming up in the next few months, I thought it would be fun to do a post about some things you didn’t know about me outside of photography! So here goes it:

  1. I’m a yardie through and through, despite not being born on the island I’m a proud Jamiacan! My parents emigrated here from the caribbean, taking me back to visit family and soak up our culture every childhood summer. And my most cherished memories are from the long, sunny days I spent in Sandy Bay, the little seaside town my father was raised in as a boy.  It’s a small town along the western coast of Jamaica, where many tourists pass through on their way to the beach resorts dotted along the seven mile white sand beaches of Negril. Fun Fact: Parts of the movie Cool Runnings were filmed on the campus of our primary and junior high school!
  2. Although Reggae and anything involving Bob Marley make up some of my favorite jams, I love all genres of music. So, if you’re road trippin’ with me, be prepared to hear anything from Taylor Swift to 2Chainz, from Celine Dion to Aerosmith, from Alainas Morissette to Dolly Parton, and you better get ready to belt out any Beyonce or Destiny’s child track! Seriously, I love just about every kind of music and flipping through stations is inevitable in my car!
  3. I have a napping addiction.  I believe it’s an integral part to anyone’s workday. Trust me here! Take a 20-30 minute nap in the middle of the day and I swear that you will wake up with the power to tackle whatever remains on your to-do list with superpower strength and agility.  Google it!  There is research there to prove my claims, which I can’t exactly recall where I got it from; pretty sure it was University of Penn. So you have to go along with me on this one and try it!
  4. Coffee actually puts me to sleep rather than delaying it! Espresso is my caffeine of choice and every now and then, I enjoy a tall toffee nut mocha as I unwind from the activities of the day. Even better paired with a good book and glowy candle. Although, I ultimately fall asleep by the first page:).
  5. I was born and raised in the city of Philadelphia. Now, you may be just as surprised as I am, but I often get asked where I’m from and when I say that I’m a Philly girl people follow up with another question to find out where I transplanted from originally. My favorite is when the folks I meet expect that I’m a Southerner! I love the South for it’s hospitality and amazing food, so I like to think I’m a city girl with a southern girl’s heart.
  6. I took my son to Walt Disney World for the first time as his 10th birthday surprise, and it is by far one of my most favorite trips thus far. My cover up quickly began to fall apart as we waited to board our plane in an airport restaurant. We had so much fun making memories in a new place that I plan on taking a mother and son trip together every year.
  7. When I travel my end goal is to find the absolute best street food or an amazing restaurant that hits it out of the park with great ambiance and delicious eats. My entire itinerary is built around must eat places derived from travel blogs and Pinterest! I’m headed to Nantucket this summer, so if you have any suggestions please share them with me in the comments!
  8. Growing up I had lots of pets- a dog, a cat, a snake, a rabbit, a guinea pig, a hamster, countless goldfish from the state fair. I’ve always been an animal lover and dreamed of being a Marine Biologist growing up.  Surprisingly though I don’t have any current pets, but I see a sweet puppy in the near future.
  9. The sound of other people chewing is like nails on a chalkboard to my ears!  It’s so weird, but if I’m in quiet space and then I hear someone chewing or crunching on something, I die a little on the inside. LOL. The only cure is to move or wear earbuds while listening to a more pleasing song or catching up on a favorite Jenna Kutcher podcast.
  10. I get into watching or reading a series only after everyone else has been raving about it for some time or after the series has tragically ended.  Like right know I’m binging on Game of Thrones and reading Harry Potter at bedtime with my son. Now I’m a super fan of both! I have to get caught up on my HBO binging before Game of Thrones returns for it’s new season!
